When most people hear the word “throw”, they think of a pitcher on a baseball mound, or a quarterback tossing a ball. “Throw” is also the term used to determine strength and distance of a scent when a candle is burning. Scent throw in traditional candle making is impacted by the type of wax, the strength of the scenting oil, and the shape of the candle.

The smell of a candle is just as important as its glow.

We didn’t have to worry about any of those challenges, as the Pyllr Kandl is not designed to melt. Our scent is emitted with an embedded wax warmer. This meant that we had to design our candle base until to maximize the throw. Those “dots” on the back of the Pyllr Base – they aren’t just artistic flourishes – those are air flow ducts that allow the scent to exit the vessel.

Those “dots” are more than artistic flourishes – they route scent out of the wax warmer.

The embedded wax warmer also gave us the opportunity to put the “throw” in the hands of the user (pun 100% intended)! We designed the wax warmer to operate at two temperatures – lower temperatures mean a less robust scent. Higher temperatures allow the scent to carry a greater distance. As with the luminance, scent can be controlled by voice, touch, or app.
